Changes to Obstetric (Pregnancy) Billing
Beginning January 1, 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, national medical coding standards for pregnancy care are changing. Until now, most prenatal visits, delivery, and postpartum care have been billed together as one "global" package after your baby is born. Under the new standards, each part of your care will be billed separately, as the services happen. Here is what this means for you.

Copays at every prenatal visit. If your insurance plan includes an office visit copay, we will collect it at each OB appointment. Your deductible and coinsurance may also apply throughout your pregnancy instead of all at once after delivery.

Insurance verification. We will verify your coverage more often during your pregnancy, and we may ask you to confirm your insurance and any changes at each visit. Please tell us right away if your plan, employer, or coverage changes.

Hospital, delivery, and postpartum care. Hospital admission, labor and delivery, and postpartum care will each be billed separately rather than as one combined charge. You may receive more than one statement, and your benefits may apply differently to each service.

If your pregnancy spans 2026 and 2027. Care you receive before January 1, 2027 will follow current billing rules, and care on or after that date will follow the new rules. Our team will review your financial agreement with you.
