Meet Dr. Katie Omachi
Dr. Omachi grew up in Chicago
I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, on the northwest side of the city. I come from a strong first-responder family, with many relatives in law enforcement. Community health and giving back have always been core values in my family.
As a young girl, I always knew my lifelong career would involve helping people, especially the people and communities that raised me.
Why women’s health stood out
While going through medical school, I realized women’s health was the area that stood out to me most. I come from a strong, female-dominated household, and I saw firsthand how meaningful it was when doctors truly listened.
The OBGYNs that my mom, aunts, and sisters went to were the kind of doctors who made my family members feel comfortable, supported, and cared for. That experience really shaped how I wanted to practice medicine.
Education and medical training
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor—Go Blue!
For medical school, I attended the University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School of Medicine. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Australia for my pre-clinical training, and then completed my clinical training in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was an incredible experience.
For residency, I trained at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (Peoria Division), where I completed four years of obstetrics and gynecology training.
Why I’m excited to join Hill Country OB/GYN
One of the things I love to share about why I’m so excited to join the Hill Country team is that this practice truly treats patients, and each other, like family.
I feel like I have wonderful mentorship here, along with people I can collaborate with to discuss medical ideas and complex cases. The way Hill Country treats and respects every patient who walks through the door is something I deeply admire.
I hope to become a staple of this community the way many of our other practitioners have, and to spread as much knowledge, love, and healing as I can through Hill Country.
Life outside of work
In my free time, I love reading. I’m a big nerdy bookworm. You can usually find me tucked away in a library or in a cute coffee shop with a good book.
I also really enjoy exercising. Running, yoga, Pilates, anything that gets a good sweat going is a great stress relief for me, and I hope to keep doing it for as long as I can.
And you can always catch me at Costco, always looking for new deals and great new products. Honestly, it’s a great place to hang out!
