Gynecological Care

  • Annual Well Woman Exam

    Learn More

At this yearly appointment, we will collect a urine specimen for urinalysis as a screen for bladder infection. The medical assistant will take your vitals (weight and blood pressure) and update your medical chart, including your medical history, obstetric history, surgical history and medications. If indicated, your doctor will perform a breast exam and a pelvic exam. Depending on your age, a pap smear, which is a screening test for cervical cancer, is typically performed during this appointment. Your doctor will discuss if a pap smear is recommended. Other routine screening may be recommended including STI (sexually transmitted infection) screening, fasting screening labs, mammography, and bone density screening.

  • Colposcopy

If your pap smear results reveal any abnormalities, your doctor may order a colposcopy. A colposcope is a lighted magnifying device that is inserted into the vagina, enabling your doctor to find problems on the cervix that cannot be seen by the eye alone. This in-office procedure is quick and causes only minimal discomfort. If you are scheduled for a colposcopy, take two regular-strength Ibuprofen tablets (if no allergies) thirty to sixty minutes prior to your appointment. Before the procedure, we will take your vitals and collect urine specimen to confirm that you are not pregnant.

  • Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)

If your Colposcopy results are abnormal, your doctor may suggest a LEEP to evaluate and/or treat the abnormality. After an injection of a local anesthetic, a thin wire loop is charged with an electric current to cut away a thin layer of tissue from the cervix. The removed tissue is then analyzed in a lab to verify the diagnosis. After the procedure, you may experience a watery, pink discharge, mild cramping, or a brownish-black discharge.

  • Endometrial Biopsy

During an endometrial biopsy, a soft, straw-like device (pipette) is used to suction a small sample of the lining of the uterus, or endometrium. The sample is sent to a lab to be inspected under a microscope for abnormal cells that may result in difficulty becoming pregnant, precancerous or cancerous cells; or heavy, prolonged, or irregular bleeding. This in-office procedure is quick and causes only minimal discomfort. If you are scheduled for an endometrial biopsy, take two regular-strength Ibuprofen tablets (if no allergies) thirty to sixty minutes prior to your appointment. Before the procedure, we will take your vitals and collect a urine specimen to confirm that you are not pregnant.

  • Endometrial Ablation (Novasure)

Your doctor may suggest endometrial ablation to treat heavy or irregular uterine bleeding that has not stabilized with medication. The procedures are quick, require no incisions, and cause little or no discomfort. We offer two types of endometrial ablation:

Novasure uses radio-frequency energy to gently and safely remove a thin layer of the lining of the uterus. This in-office procedure takes less than five minutes.

Thermachoice involves placement of a silicone balloon into the uterus. The balloon is filled with a fluid that is heated and circulated in the uterus for eight minutes.

NOTE: Endometrial ablation is not intended for women who wish to become pregnant in the future or are undecided. Highly-effective contraception or permanent sterilization is recommended for women who have had endometrial ablation.

  • Long-Term Contraception

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants are the most effective reversible contraceptives. The major advantage of these compared with other reversible contraceptive methods is that they are highly effective and virtually maintenance-free. Additionally, fertility returns rapidly after removal of the device. Our patients have several highly-effective devices or implants from which to choose, including:

Nexplanon: a small, hormone-releasing device that is implanted in the inner, upper arm and provides up to three years of pregnancy prevention.

Paragard: a hormone-free, copper intrauterine contraceptive that provides up to ten years of pregnancy prevention.

Liletta: a hormone-releasing intrauterine device that provides up to six years of pregnancy prevention.

Mirena: a hormone-releasing, plastic intrauterine device that provides up to seven years of pregnancy prevention.

Kyleena: a small low dose hormone-releasing IUD that prevents pregnancy for up to 5 years.

Skyla: a small low dose hormone-releasing IUD that prevents pregnancy for up to 3 years.

  • Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive Ordering Process

Doctor approval and the corresponding signed patient consent form must be received before the ordering process can begin.

Our office will verify your insurance coverage for the procedure. If your insurance plan has 100% contraceptive coverage, your order will process through the specialty pharmacy or our office. If you have a financial responsibility that exceeds your copay, you will be notified to see if you wish to proceed.

The prescription is then faxed to the specialty pharmacy that is contracted with your insurance. They will verify your benefit information for the device only. Please allow 2-6 weeks.

The specialty pharmacy may need to contact you regarding your financial responsibility and/or to get final approval to ship. This phone call may be required to finalize the order.

Our office will notify you when your device arrives. All placements must occur within the first 5 days of your period unless you are breastfeeding, 6 weeks postpartum, or currently have a device in place.

  • Minimally Invasive Surgical Options

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is a safe and effective alternative to traditional open surgery. During MIS tiny incisions are made by the surgeon and the procedure is accomplished laparoscopically or robotically, in place of what would otherwise be a large abdominal incision.

There are many benefits of minimally invasive surgery including less pain, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times. MIS can be used to treat many conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, endometriosis, pelvic pain and pelvic organ prolapse.

The da Vinci surgical system is a revolutionary tool that doctors use to assist them while performing minimally invasive surgery. A robotic surgery requires very small incisions, only 8mm, and gives doctors greater control and precision while operating. The visual system allows doctors to use 3-D imaging rather than 2-D conventional imaging in conventional laparoscopy. A patient’s recovery time is shorter and pain levels are significantly less than that of a patient who underwent a standard open surgery. Drs. Eduardo, Landwermeyer, Hart, Quinn, and DiSarro are trained and certified to use this new surgical procedure.
